Pharmacists with the right training will soon be able to prescribe certain medicines. The government has passed legislation in order to alleviate pressure on GPs at the Primary Care Centre and St Bernard’s Hospital.
Health Minister, Neil Costa, told GBC the scheme will not cover controlled drugs such as Valium. He said it will not be subsidized by the Health Authority, meaning patients would need to pay the full commercial price for medicines.
The scheme will sit alongside the current practices at the PCC & the hospital. Our reporter Jonathan Scott spoke to Mr Costa.
